Townsend challenges Schumer to a debate

NEW YORK STATE — Jay Townsend is still feeling the thrill of winning his republican primary race Tuesday night. Townsend will challenge Charles Schumer for his U.S. Senate seat in November.

If Townsend is elected, he says he’ll try to change the culture of Washington. Speaking at the Albany County Republican Headquarters, he vowed not take any time off and says he’s looking forward to squaring off against Schumer.

“Today I formally challenge Senator Schumer to come to New York during the month of October and defend his record and let’s not have one debate at three in the morning on some obscure radio station somewhere. Let’s have debates on Long Island, in New York, Albany, Syracuse, Buffalo, Rochester, North Country and let’s talk about where this country is headed,” said Townsend.

Townsend defeated former CIA officer Gary Berntsen in Tuesday’s primary.
