6 freed political prisoners from Cuba arrive in Spain, government says

Madrid, Spain (CNN) — The first group of political prisoners freed by the Cuban government has arrived in Madrid, the capital of Spain, the state-run EFE news agency reported Tuesday.

Six Cuban dissidents and some family members were aboard the aircraft that landed at Madrid’s Barajas airport, EFE said, citing an unnamed spokesman for the ministry of foreign affairs. A second aircraft that had not arrived yet carried a seventh dissident and family members, EFE said.

The seven are among 52 political prisoners the Cuban government agreed last week to release, according to the Roman Catholic Church in Cuba.
