Tapping on a tablet, Pope Francis on Sunday evening lit the world’s largest Christmas tree.

Made of nearly 1,000 multi-colored lights connected by more than 5 miles of electrical cable, the “tree” is a lighting display laid out on the side of Mount Ingino near the medieval town of Gubbio in Umbria, central Italy.

“It isn’t Christmas without the lights,” Pope Francis said, as he brought to life the huge electronic tree.
