Rand Paul collapses in latest poll

What happened to Rand Paul’s lead?

A new CNN/Time poll has the Kentucky Senate in a dead heat.

Republican candidate Rand Paul is tied with Democratic Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway. The poll has each candidate receiving 46 percent support.  The poll’s margin of error is 3.5 percentage points.

The real surprise lies in the poll’s timing. Last weekend, a SurveyUSA poll conducted for the Louisville Courier-Journal and WHAS-TV this weekend showed Mr. Paul leading Mr. Conway by fifteen percentage points.

The Republican candidate has faced a number of political hurdles in past months. Comments and the emergence of a number of past actions have raised questions surrounding the campaign. Meanwhile, Mr. Conway continues to play down his run for U.S. Senate.

The poll comes just hours after Mr. Paul launched his first television ad. In the ad, Mr. Paul takes aim at Mr. Conway.
